Door knocker with backplate
Germany, late 17th century
Malleable iron. Round bar with grooving along the sides, set with acanthus leaves and a wild-man ring knob in the centre which serves as the hammer. The terminals on the ring are formed into Corinthian capitals, which pass through an eye on the square ring mount. The ring mount features two caryatids. Decorated with deep grooves.
